When modeling is no longer just a hobby

There are hobbies that come and go. They last a season, fill a dead end, and then end up at the bottom of a drawer. Modeling was not that for me. I’ve been doing this for over eleven years. And what started with four paints, a couple of tools, and half a meter of desk space has become something that takes up much more: time, mental energy, and a particular way of understanding a job well done. It didn’t start with great pretensions. There was no plan, no intention to monetize anything, no brand aspirations. There was only a desire to learn. That's what it looks like from the outside. Inside, it's something else. It's about understanding materials: which paint can withstand the thinner, which varnish won't turn milky, which weathering technique makes sense for a vehicle that operated in the desert and which for Soviet mud. It's about knowing history: the theaters of operations, the camouflage schemes, the documentation errors that are repeated in thousands of models because no one consulted a primary source. And it's about making informed decisions, not just guessing. That’s the level I always want to reach. And what I try to convey in every project. What ModelsFiguresMore is and what this space is for This is not a typical sales site. In Spain, there are big modeling brands that do that very well. I don't compete with them. What I do here are three specific things. First: sharing what I know. Through videos on the YouTube channel, technical articles on this blog, downloadable guides, and documented step-by-step projects. Everything is aimed at helping you learn something useful, whether you're a beginner or have been doing this for years. Second: being a reference point. A place to find quick answers to specific questions. What colors to use for a Panzer IV in North Africa. Which airbrush makes sense for 1/35 figures. Which thinner goes with which paint. Things that take time to find when you don't know exactly where to look. When a piece is available, it will appear here. The first diorama: a Panzerkampfwagen III in Tunisia, 1943 To introduce this space, I wanted to start with something that well summarized what I do. A 1/35 scale Panzerkampfwagen III, set in the African theater, Tunisia campaign, 1943. A finished piece where every element—vehicle, terrain, weathering, and composition—has been crafted with respect for historical context. The Panzer III was the Afrika Korps' benchmark medium tank in the early phases of the North African campaign. Versatile, relatively fast by the standards of the time, but already somewhat obsolete compared to the more modern Allied armored vehicles that began to appear in 1942. In Tunisia, in 1943, these tanks operated at their limit: with supply problems, in conditions of extreme heat and permanent dust that affected both the mechanics and the exterior finish of the vehicles. That context dictates every painting decision. Not aesthetic taste.
