The Stryker M1128 MGS is one of the most imposing and visually appealing modern armored vehicles we've brought into the workshop. Its eight-wheel configuration and 105mm cannon make it an exciting challenge for any modeler. In this article, we explain how we worked on this model, focusing on an NATO green color modulation that seeks maximum realism without excessive weathering.

Materials used (recommended equipment)
Before getting our hands dirty, it's vital to have the right tools. For this project, we relied on our usual equipment:
- The model kit: Stryker M1128 MGS (2010 Upgraded Version) by AFV Club.
- Airbrush: for base coats and modulation, our go-to airbrush — View on Amazon
- Paints and effects: NATO green color set and pigments for dusting the wheels.
- Detailing: hand mini drill for drilling machine gun barrels — View on Amazon
💡 "For modern vehicles, subtlety is key. We don't want a tank that looks like it came from a junkyard, but one that is operational and well-maintained."
⚠️ Beware of versions: not all Strykers are the same. For this project, we used the M1128 MGS (Mobile Gun System), easily distinguished by its huge 105mm cannon (it looks like a tank on wheels). It's important not to confuse it with the M1296 Dragoon, which, although very similar in appearance, mounts a turret with a much smaller 30mm auto-cannon. If you're looking for maximum modern realism, make sure your box is the "2010 Upgraded" version from AFV Club; it includes the rear air conditioning system and laser sensors you'll see on our model.

Step-by-step: from box to display case
1. Assembly and preparation
Assembling the Stryker is laborious due to its complex 8-wheel suspension system. It is essential to take the time to clean every burr. In this step, we use the mini drill to add depth to the muzzle brakes, a small detail that makes a difference in the final result.
2. Green color modulation
To prevent the model from looking like a boring "green block," we apply the modulation technique: illuminating the upper areas and central panels, leaving shadows in the lower parts and crevices. This generates artificial volume that makes the model come alive under any light.

3. Weathering: road dust
For the Stryker, we opted for atmospheric weathering. Instead of heavy mud or deep chips, we focused on accumulated dust: dry pigments on the sides of the tires and at the rear, simulating the vehicle's passage through arid terrain.
Conclusion and collector's item
The result is a Stryker that perfectly balances modern engineering with the art of model making. It has been a process of over 60 hours of work where every bolt has received attention.
